Rules, by Cynthia Lord

Twelve-year old Catherine tries to manage her brother's autism with rules such as, "It's fine to hug Mom, but not the clerk at the video store," while her growing friendship with Jason, a paraplegic she meets at her brother's occupational therapist's helps her to see beyond their disabilities. Light humor, an ocean-side setting, and Catherine's artistic talents support a well-rounded inclusion of characters with disabilities.

I think this is a great idea! I look forward to learning how to use it and reading the reviews. This could ease the time restraint that so many folks feel about Best Books and ultimately include more participants. It is definitely worth considering.

Flotsam, by David Wiesner

A young boy discovers a camera in the surf at the beach and when he develops the film, he finds fantastic images of underwater creatures. But the most amazing photo is the last one that shows a boy holding a photo of another child holding a photo and so on until a microscopic examination reveals the original boy on a beach decades ago. Completely wordless, the amazing illustrations, some double-spread convey the story and an imaginative journey underwater and back in time.
