Illus. by Bill Thomson.
A young boy joins his dad at a construction site. The book opens from top to bottom providing interesting use of perspective and a sense of being dwarfed by the large equipment. The construction site is for a new school and will offer extra interest at newly opened schools.

I will second this one. It has great appeal to kids. It is an excellent addition to the community helper books in the collection to support that portion of the social studies curriculum. While it has received negative reviews on some of the "stunted rhyming" I disagree having started this year in a school that was essentially still under construction on the first day toilets that flush and floors that are gleaming are highly coveted items!
OOps--forgot one thing. I liked the unexpected gender twist in that one of Dad's mechanics was a SHE!
